Accented strokes are loud and played at a full height. Tap strokes are quiet and played
at a very low height. “Accent Tap” is a two-height exercise for drummers to practice
transitions from one to another. Most patterns are two measures long and performed
with the right hand only and repeated again with the left. Measure nine begins different
accent patterns for each of the instruments before returning to unison pattern for the
ending. Mallets play a major acle progression followed by simple chords in the same
rhythm as the bass drum, and then a faster scale run. Performers can change key
following the circle of fourths after “C” is mastered. his exercise comes with a play along video for snare, tenor, and mallets at both full speed and 75% speed.
