“Sweet 16” is a sixteenth accent grid pattern, and it is the sibling exercise to “Trip Up”.
Accents are moved sequentially through each of the sixteenth note partials. And the
mallets move the accent note through the chord progression This is followed by a loud
2/4 unison measure for a dynamic change. The final measure of eighth note for the
snares and tenors can be played with a “Taiko” technique. Each player is randomly
assigned different eighth partials to play. As on hand strikes the drum, the other hand
lifts over the head. This results in a fun slow motion looking visual, with the full audio of
the measure of eighth notes. This exercise comes with a play along video for snare, tenor, and mallets at both full speed and 75% speed.
