“Trip Up” is an introduction to grid patterns. This one is built in a triplet rhythm, and the accents are moving sequentially through each of the “inner beats” or “partials” - creating a triplet accent grid. The mallets also move through the scale in eighth note triplets. The second half of the exercise has the drummers removing different partials to experience additional triplet-based rhythms. This exercise comes with a play along video for snare, tenor, and mallets at both full speed and 75% speed.
